Everywhere you turn it seems like everyone and their brother has an opinion on what YOU should do with YOUR money…
… even though THEY have absolutely ZERO skin in the game and won’t suffer the same fate as you and your family if they give faulty suggestions.
Sure, their advice may sound legit… with their supreme confidence, complex charts, glowing testimonials, and jargon filled lingo…
But how are you supposed to know who to trust?
For example, a few years back I heard a frightening story about heart surgeons performing at least 769 unnecessary surgeries on patients…
Simply because they were trusted experts and the patients were unable to understand what their options really were…
… and they were also ill-equipped to question their authority or suspect they were going under the knife in the name of excessive profits.
And the scary thing for Dentists Who Invest is…
This same situation routinely occurs in the investment world… although the case can be made that it’s MUCH more common in investing.
In fact, several advisory firms have been under the microscope recently for not offering any real ongoing service for the recurring fees they’ve been charging.
And that’s not even including the pushing of products that may or may not be in your best interest.
But don’t let this scare you away from making investments because when you invest…
You are buying a day you won’t have to work in the future… and possibly doing the same for your loved ones.

I often get asked what’s the single best piece of advice that I can give to someone wanting to invest and my answer is always the same…
Gain an understanding of the investing landscape so you’re equipped to ask the questions that will lead to the results you seek.
See, the questions we ask determine the choices we make…
… and the choices we make determine our actions…
… and our actions influence the results that we receive.
So if you ask the wrong questions, you’re gonna get the wrong results.
And if you ask the right questions, you increase your chances of receiving your desired results.

However, the questions that we’re able to ask are determined by our previous experience and knowledge…
So if you don’t know that you can actually bypass using a Financial Advisor and avoid recurring high fees…
Then you’d never think to ask:
‘How can I avoid paying a Financial Advisor high and recurring fees?’
Or… if you didn’t know that you can insure your investments…
You wouldn’t think to ask:
‘How can I ensure my nest egg is protected no matter what happens in the world?’
And so on.
Now you can see why I always suggest learning the general language and rules of investing first… along with the many options available to you.
As you may know, there is no one-size-fits-all investment strategy that works for every person in every situation.
And that’s why it’s essential to first ask what you’re trying to achieve… and how long you have to achieve it.
For example, a fresh-out-of-school dentist with no spouse, no children, and no mortgage would not – nor should they – follow the same strategy as a 40-year old married practice owner with 3 children and a mortgage.
Makes sense right?
Unfortunately, I didn’t get the memo.
See, back in 2018 after putting myself through schooling and in my 2nd year as a General Dental Practitioner, I decided I wanted to begin investing.
I can’t recall where the idea first entered my mind, BUT…
You can bet I still remember where I went to get ‘educated’ …
Being the confident 27 year old that I was… I opened up my computer browser and typed youtube.com in the address bar.
I know, I know…
I can see my mistake clear as day now… but back then, I was absolutely certain this advice was legit and I’d soon be a millionaire as promised.
I thought I knew where to put my money for the best return… and… I thought I knew how much to invest and over what time frame.
I thought I knew how to quickly create a new revenue stream that would help me pay for that beautiful house I’ve been eyeing.
And because my confidence was blazing (as is the case when you watch ‘for entertainment only’ videos by charismatic creators)…
I ignored the voice in my head whispering…
“Slow down, James.
You don’t really understand
what you’re getting into.”
And then, with a single click of a mouse button… I dropped the majority of my savings on the ONE approach I ‘knew’ would make bank.
But of course… As you can probably guess, I lost it all over the course of several days.
Every… single… penny.
I was despondent for days… staring at the ceiling in the middle of the night questioning my intelligence and decision making abilities.
Thankfully, I was raised to never give up and took this hit on the chin and committed to learning what led to my financial devastation.
In hindsight, I realized my impatience, coupled with not understanding the language and rules of investing, and trusting those with biased incentives set me back years.

get better results’
Instead of asking, ‘How much of my hard-earned money can I invest in this crazy scheme?’…
I began asking ‘Is this ‘free’ advice even applicable to my situation?’
And ‘what do I really need to know before making a decision?’
I FORCED myself to be the master of my investments.
I became a learning machine, reading book upon book, taking online courses, and even investing in very expensive conversations with experts.
The entire process was long and exhausting.
But it was WORTH it!
Within a few short years I’d done what had previously felt impossible… all the money I’d lost was back in my account, and then some.

Looking back, it didn’t really need to take me as long as it did to get caught up on the investing landscape…
